Into the Cornfield

Posted on October 25, 2025October 25, 2025 by Clio

As a child, I convinced myself… … that I’d only be noticed if I exploded. In the Twilight Zone “It’s a Good Life”, Billy Mumy plays Anthony, a little boy who holds a small town in thrall because of his ability to destroy anything at his whim. If you upset him, the best you can…

How Soon Is Now?

Posted on September 7, 2025September 7, 2025 by Clio

This is an unorganized trauma dump. Read or skip, your choice, but don’t blame me if you read it and don’t like the dumping. The physical form containing my mother stopped functioning on December 8, 2024. I struggle with making and maintaining friends. It’s easy for me to insist that’s because of my Autism, but…

Roman Re-enacting: Malden 2025

Posted on August 5, 2025August 5, 2025 by Clio

We used to go to two Roman Re-enactment events a year, but lapses at the sites paused that. This year, we went to Fort Malden in Amherstburg, Ontario, for the first time in about nine years. Here are some photos.

Dream: Limerick

Posted on July 31, 2025July 31, 2025 by Clio

First, a limerick: There was a young man from NantucketWho, throwing his watch in a bucket,Said with chagrin,“It’s broken again,If it hadn’t been stolen, I’d chuck it!” Now, the context: I was dreaming that I was taking a high school Algebra class. I wasn’t paying much attention because, hi, I teach high school Algebra, why…

Dairy 060625 – Fight

Posted on June 6, 2025June 6, 2025 by Clio

I woke up this morning thinking about emotional immaturity. This summer’s project is to organize as much of my old writing as possible. Recently, it’s been stuff from 95-96, including stuff I wrote improvised on Grex, a message board I was active on during that time period. One file I found is a chat log…

Diary 050325

Posted on May 3, 2025May 3, 2025 by Clio

1 Lately I’ve been going through my old writing (decades old, in many cases) writing and trying to organize it. Today I found a story I don’t remember writing. It feels like I was trying to mimic “The Usual Suspects”, which would put it in the late 1990s. The gist is that this person is…

03.30.25 Working and organizing

Posted on March 30, 2025March 30, 2025 by Clio

I’ve spent my Spring Break going through a lot of old writing, organizing it and getting rid of paper in the process. I’ve also been working on a website dedicated entirely to my writing, more organized than this blog. It’s still very much a work in progress, for only a week alone and my rusty…

Dairy: “Can You See Me?”

Posted on December 26, 2024December 26, 2024 by Clio

“My friendships mean everything to me and the thought of having to do all that awful socializing to make new ones fills me with dread.” – “Can You See Me?” by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott, p. 153 As I’m reading this book, about an 11-year-old Autistic girl navigating her new middle school, one persistent…

Diary: I May Be Wrong

Posted on May 21, 2024May 21, 2024 by Clio

An incident that happened last weekend stirred up childhood memories that help me understand why a particular behavior evokes a shutdown/meltdown reaction. When I was a child, my being right about even fairly arcane things was the norm, and so when I was wrong or ignorant about something, that was a source of mockery. I…
